Chinese Center on Long Island 長島中華協會

FRIDAY, September 15, 2017 at 7:30PM

On Friday, September 15th the Center will open the 2017-2018-program season with a night of Cantonese Opera. Mrs. Mo Yu Yee (Mo) will be our guest speaker and vocalist. Mo will give us the history of its origin, its evolution and its relevance to this modern world today. She will vividly describe the awesome view of an opera house and the grand stage. Mo will talk about the beautiful gowns worn by the performers, both ladies and men. Our speaker will be accompanied by another singer, an accomplished erhu performer Sze Leung Tam, and Mr. Fung.

Mo will sing solo and in a duet in several selections covering special love, immense loyalty and a lonely heart awaiting the return of a loved one. Mo spent years training her voice to sing on stage in Cantonese opera. She was so able to master the skills necessary to sing in this setting that she was invited to join tours throughout China and Hong Kong. In the last few years she has performed in New York City, most recently on Sunday, August 6th.

Mo retired as an administrator in a contract agency of the United States Department of Defense. She is in private business and juggles her time to perform in the Chinese operas. Mark your calendar for September 15th at 7:30PM to enjoy an evening of Chinese classical music.

Let me know by September 13th if you will be attending and the number of people with you. We need to provide enough food and refreshments for a light dinner. Thank you.
